Senseless Review

Hello everyone!

I know, shocking!, I'm posting something in what seems like forever! As I said on the latest podcast, I've seen a lot of movies lately. Most of which I really can't recommended to watch. But some of them are either really good (but not truly in the horror genre) or have qualities that people might enjoy. So what I am going to do, is at least once a week post a review of a movie. Starting with:

Senseless (2008)

Senseless is about a American businessman, who is captured by a small group of French terrorists (or rebel group) and broadcasts his torture online for money. Elliot Gast (played by Jason Behr) enjoys life through the senses. He eats extravagant food, plays piano love the feel and taste of expensive things. So the kidnappers take away the things that mean most to him: his senses. And so little by little they take his sense of taste, smell, touch, hearing, and lastly sight.

Some of the scenes are hard to watch, even for a horror veteran. For the sense of touch all I can say is, it includes ice water and a cheese grater. I've glazed a knuckle or two on those things, it hurts! Let alone the whole hand, so I was cringing the entire scene. Gorehounds out there might enjoy it, but they are short-lives and few. But for the few scenes of gore, they did it well. The effects are great, most of them done by practical means.

The acting was very believable by Jason Behr. The torture takes place over a series of weeks. You can see in his face and eyes the mental breakdown.

Emma Catherwood plays as a nurse with the terrorists. Very attractive girl, but sometimes her acting just wasn't as 'in depth' as Jason's. Never the less, very believable people, setting, effects, everything! Really, the only reason I didn't use it in my segment was because, it just doesn't feel like a horror movie. It's more, political- psychological -drama.

Highly recommend it if you like a slow burn, not much action, just a character based story. I give it a 8.5.

Oh, and I didn't forget about the pictures I said I would post of my sons Halloween costume. Truth is, he didn't like wearing the mask piece for Sam- so I didn't get any good pictures of the finished head with the orange onesie. But I did get some cute pictures of him; and he still made out like a bandit. :)
