Art Dump

Hey, so as a 'thank you' to everyone who have been patient with me. I would like to show you all some bits of my work. Some are older and some are newer, but I think you like them all.

Thanks again guys and enjoy!

Encouraging words my Mom would give me. A little spoof pic when I was really down in the dumps.

SPACE BEE! Two awesome things in one. The shark is saying, "Watch me dance or I'll eat you!" Defenitally going to make a t-shirt of that.

An owl-deer-muse-forest spirit thing. Sometimes I have no idea what I'm creating, but that's not always a bad thing. ;)

Flying toast! Need I say more?

A shark-snail creature. Monsters and creature are my favorite things to draw hands down! Don't know why, just are. Have to apologize for the lined paper. I draw on anything I can get my hands on at work.

More creatures!

Alright, this is kinda an inside-joke. I follow one of my favorite artists in Twitter and he came up with a saying, 'What the Hell BBQ?' I had this image come to mind and had to draw it! Yay random inspiration from Twitter!

And lastly, this must be what the inside of my head looks like.

Hope you guys liked, I'll definitally add more later as I scan them into the computer.

The Shrine (2010) Review

Just LOOK at that cover image! Isn't it cool?! I mean, LOOK AT IT! It's the biggest reason I choose to watch the movie. That mask is just too awesome. (totally going to make one for my collection) I also remember watching the trailers on Horrorbid.com before it came out. The strange European towns folk and the images of a demon where cool, so the instant it came out on Netflix streaming; I had to press play. But the hype did not live up.

A young American backpacker goes missing in the countryside of Europe. A small-town reporter (Carmen) catches wind of it and seeks out to find the truth. Along with her assistant (Sara) and photographer boyfriend (Marcus), they head out to the boys' last known location. There, they are greeted by a small village with occupants who are anything but friendly. They try to 'shoo' away the foreigners, but before they do; Carmen, Sara, and Marucs find a strange fog that just hovers over one part of a neighboring forest. They pretend to leave the village and backpack around to the spot in the forest. Where they find a thick fog hiding a sinister curse.

Well, that's all I really want to say. If your interested in the movie I'd hate to give a way too much. Just like the cover art, there are some really neat images in the movie. Like this one:

And this one:

But unfortunately that's all the movie has going for itself. There's twists you can see coming a mile away. The characters all are so 'flat,' the villagers are more believable than the three main characters. The script just seemed so rushed. There's barley any build up! They go from seeing the curse straight to being sacrificed. No real scare that their being changed into or chased by something. They try to through it in later; but seems too last minute. And, of course, they easily leave it for sequels. Which always pisses me off. They try to make a damn series of movies that would be a great-'one stand.' Like the premise is neat, but I really don't think it could hold up 3 or 4 more movies.

Not too much gore either. An appropriate amount. Some good intestine shots, and (as you can see above) narley looking eye gouging.

All that said, it's not BAD; just another average horror movie. Some neat effects and artistry, but rushed script and boring actors. If there's literally nothing else on your Que, then give it a try. I'm sure some of you will really quiet like it.

For me I give it a 5: MEH. Could of gone really well, but didn't.

Happy (belated) Christmas!

Hope everyone had a safe and fun Holiday!

Here is a little twisted winter-themed comic for you all to enjoy!

Tom Noonan!

Here is the picture of Tom Noonan as promised on Captains Howdy's show 'Que on This.' You can listen to the show here:

The show was a lot of fun to do, and I hope to be on his show again sometime!

Senseless Review

Hello everyone!

I know, shocking!, I'm posting something in what seems like forever! As I said on the latest podcast, I've seen a lot of movies lately. Most of which I really can't recommended to watch. But some of them are either really good (but not truly in the horror genre) or have qualities that people might enjoy. So what I am going to do, is at least once a week post a review of a movie. Starting with:

Senseless (2008)

Senseless is about a American businessman, who is captured by a small group of French terrorists (or rebel group) and broadcasts his torture online for money. Elliot Gast (played by Jason Behr) enjoys life through the senses. He eats extravagant food, plays piano love the feel and taste of expensive things. So the kidnappers take away the things that mean most to him: his senses. And so little by little they take his sense of taste, smell, touch, hearing, and lastly sight.

Some of the scenes are hard to watch, even for a horror veteran. For the sense of touch all I can say is, it includes ice water and a cheese grater. I've glazed a knuckle or two on those things, it hurts! Let alone the whole hand, so I was cringing the entire scene. Gorehounds out there might enjoy it, but they are short-lives and few. But for the few scenes of gore, they did it well. The effects are great, most of them done by practical means.

The acting was very believable by Jason Behr. The torture takes place over a series of weeks. You can see in his face and eyes the mental breakdown.

Emma Catherwood plays as a nurse with the terrorists. Very attractive girl, but sometimes her acting just wasn't as 'in depth' as Jason's. Never the less, very believable people, setting, effects, everything! Really, the only reason I didn't use it in my segment was because, it just doesn't feel like a horror movie. It's more, political- psychological -drama.

Highly recommend it if you like a slow burn, not much action, just a character based story. I give it a 8.5.

Oh, and I didn't forget about the pictures I said I would post of my sons Halloween costume. Truth is, he didn't like wearing the mask piece for Sam- so I didn't get any good pictures of the finished head with the orange onesie. But I did get some cute pictures of him; and he still made out like a bandit. :)

Long time away

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around lately. As I've said on the show, I've been up to my eyeballs in work on a graphic novel I'm going to try to get out to publishers by the end of the year. On top of being sick and other normal life stuff. But a lot has been happening! We have moved and combined forces with BillChete over at The Horror Palace .

Please go give it a look, there's something there for all horror fans everyday! And also as promised as a thank you for hanging with me through a boring 'no posting' length of time, I have drawn this picture for you all. It's not colored, but it's still a lot of fun.

There will also be some fun Halloween pictures here in the near future. I am currently working on my 2 year old sons costume, and so far it's looking awesome! He's dressing up as Sam from Trick R Treat. Can't wait to show you all once it's finished.

'Til then! Stay scared!

Something Else...

As a warning-or heads up-This post is not horror related, it's awesome related!

The Flaming Lips concert at Red Rocks was just that-pure, delicious awesomeness. This was my first concert at Red Rocks and my second concert ever. The ampatheatre is built into the side of the mountain with (guess it) huge red rocks framing the stands, stage, & even the road to the theater.
That's the back of the stage and the bleachers.
The line to get in. Have to hike up at least 3 flights of stairs just to get in. But inside they have food vendor booths and ATM's build into the rock. Very cool!
The acoustics in the place were amazing! The place is high-up where above the stage you can see Denver city lights. The feeling is like your on top of the world surrounded by great music.
Front of the stage all set up for Primus. Denver can be seen on the far left there.
And speaking of music! Primus opened for Flaming Lips, and they did not dissapoint! They had huge astronauts on stage and their visors light up and played weird videos. Like salad fingers and elephants jumping to the beat of the music.
One of the 'nauts.
All lit up and pretty!
Primus played some great classics like 'My name is Mud,' and some new stuff! Which were great, the crowd really got into it and there was barley anyone sitting still we all danced & swayed to the beats. Speaking of crowd...
One of the sides of the rock at night.
I really must give praise to these people. The whole place was just filled with positive energy. No fights or arguments, everyone was so nice and friendly. To have a crowd of people THAT big and NOT run into one butt-head is an accomplishment in itself. Now if only every day life was like that.
The sky was nearly dark when Primus finished. The city lights stretched out in front of us, the stars blinked brightly up above; and Wayne Coyne took the stage. He told us that he was going to come out in his space bubble and wanted us to push him up into the middle of the crowd. Which is a tricky thing to do because the bleachers are so steep.
Here he comes!Get ready for it!
WOOHOO!
And we got him in the middle of the huge crowd. If the show didn't need to start, I bet we could of got him all the way to the top!
Now this wasn't one of their regular shows, they were preforming Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' album and some Wizard of Oz too.
Why you looking scared Dorothy?
Oh, that's why!
Though the music was not their own, their rendition and visuals were truly Lip's style. Crazy looped images of neon colors, eye balls, and yes; even a clit or two flashed on the screen. Giant balloons filled with money were thrown out into the crowd during 'Money.' Confetti by the bucket loads, lazors, giant hands and dancers dressed up as Dorothy, Tin man, and cowardly lions.
Mind tripp'n
Hail the hands!
Peek a Boo
I know I just can't do the concert any justice with my words and pictures. It is an experience you have to have yourself. I am DEFINITALLY planning to see their concert again next year. They are so creative, fun, and down-to-earth. I've come away from it feeling a little more completed.
Sparkly fairies and all!
There was a whole in my life and they filled it with a shycodelic smorgousboard of imagry and music. If you ever have a chance-GO SEE THEM IN CONCERT! They are an 11 out of 10 in my book.

A Dear Farwell

I am just as saddened as the fans to hear the news that Horror Jungle shall be no longer. It has been a fantastic experience, and I thank everyone for listening in, writing, and just stopping by my blog and DeviantArt page. It really means a lot to me that you guys enjoyed what we did. I hope to still be around for horror and podcasting, but until another opportunity arises; I'll still be updating this blog and my deviant pages.
Horror means a lot to me, and it always will even though I won't be as vocal about it. I am neck deep in research for a horror comic series I'm hoping to get published here in the next year or two. I'll keep you guys posted on that, and maybe some previews if I can. ;)
I still watch horror movies in my free time, so I will definitely still post up some recommendations up on here. So please stay tuned, you guys have been so wonderful; I don't want to just vanish because the podcast is gone. Horror will live on!
