As a warning-or heads up-This post is not horror related, it's awesome related!
The Flaming Lips concert at Red Rocks was just that-pure, delicious awesomeness. This was my first concert at Red Rocks and my second concert ever. The ampatheatre is built into the side of the mountain with (guess it) huge red rocks framing the stands, stage, & even the road to the theater.

That's the back of the stage and the bleachers. |
The line to get in. Have to hike up at least 3 flights of stairs just to get in. But inside they have food vendor booths and ATM's build into the rock. Very cool! | | | | | | | |
The acoustics in the place were amazing! The place is high-up where above the stage you can see Denver city lights. The feeling is like your on top of the world surrounded by great music.
Front of the stage all set up for Primus. Denver can be seen on the far left there. |
And speaking of music! Primus opened for Flaming Lips, and they did not dissapoint! They had huge astronauts on stage and their visors light up and played weird videos. Like salad fingers and elephants jumping to the beat of the music.

One of the 'nauts. |
All lit up and pretty! |
Primus played some great classics like 'My name is Mud,' and some new stuff! Which were great, the crowd really got into it and there was barley anyone sitting still we all danced & swayed to the beats. Speaking of crowd...

One of the sides of the rock at night. |
I really must give praise to these people. The whole place was just filled with positive energy. No fights or arguments, everyone was so nice and friendly. To have a crowd of people THAT big and NOT run into one butt-head is an accomplishment in itself. Now if only every day life was like that.
The sky was nearly dark when Primus finished. The city lights stretched out in front of us, the stars blinked brightly up above; and Wayne Coyne took the stage. He told us that he was going to come out in his space bubble and wanted us to push him up into the middle of the crowd. Which is a tricky thing to do because the bleachers are so steep.
Here he comes!Get ready for it! |
WOOHOO! |
And we got him in the middle of the huge crowd. If the show didn't need to start, I bet we could of got him all the way to the top! |
Now this wasn't one of their regular shows, they were preforming Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' album and some Wizard of Oz too.
Why you looking scared Dorothy? |
Oh, that's why! |
Though the music was not their own, their rendition and visuals were truly Lip's style. Crazy looped images of neon colors, eye balls, and yes; even a clit or two flashed on the screen. Giant balloons filled with money were thrown out into the crowd during 'Money.' Confetti by the bucket loads, lazors, giant hands and dancers dressed up as Dorothy, Tin man, and cowardly lions.

Mind tripp'n |
Hail the hands! |
Peek a Boo |
I know I just can't do the concert any justice with my words and pictures. It is an experience you have to have yourself. I am DEFINITALLY planning to see their concert again next year. They are so creative, fun, and down-to-earth. I've come away from it feeling a little more completed.

Sparkly fairies and all! |
There was a whole in my life and they filled it with a shycodelic smorgousboard of imagry and music. If you ever have a chance-GO SEE THEM IN CONCERT! They are an 11 out of 10 in my book.
The Flaming Lips-They put the happy back in life
